Atonement NOT Judgment

Tradition changed the meaning of Yom Kippur from a day of national atonement to a day of personal judgement. Jews and Christians believe that by fasting and praying for 40 days preceding the holiday God will be gracious and answer their prayers. Often those prayers are demands!
