20210910 The Tyranny of the Majority - The Daily Summation

Imagine being a Jew in Nazi Germany.

As such, you would ALMOST CERTAINLY be a "minority group."

Now consider the idea that MOST Germans (and nations conquered by them), were MORE THAN WILLING to do the things that ended in an attempt at GENOCIDE of your people.

It may be fair to say many of them had NO IDEA what they were supporting.

Nonetheless, support it they did.

If that's not a sign that folks will support harmful activities where their fellows are concerned, forgive me, but I don't know what is.

THIS is why America's Founders were careful to NOT institute or implement a "full on democracy."

They chose to create a republic, with democratically elected legislators and executive (note well, I DO NOT use the expression "leaders" here).

They knew well, the danger of "the tyranny of the majority."

One point I think a lot of folks miss when discussing this, is that rights are often one of the LAST things to go when a tyranny of the majority comes into being.

Often LONG before that happens, PRIVILEGES are taken away.

By then, the water is already getting warm.

This is why I felt the need to discuss the tyranny of the majority on today's edition of The Daily Summation from Kurt's Religion and Politics.
