Yom Kippur יוֹם כִּיפּוּר - The Day of Atonement

This week on What's Going On In Israel, Callie continue with the 10 Days of Awe discussing Yom Kippur. The high holy day Yom Kippur is the holiest day of the year in Judaism. Yom Kippur is a complete Sabbath; no work can be performed on that day. It is well-known that you are supposed to refrain from eating and drinking (even water) on Yom Kippur. It is a complete, 25-hour fast beginning before sunset on the evening before Yom Kippur and ending after nightfall on the day of Yom Kippur. Yom Kippur 2021 begins at sunset on September 15 (the evening service begins with Kol Nidre) and ends at nightfall on September 16, the last of the ten days of penitence that began with Rosh Hashanah (the Jewish New Year).
