Julie Geis had a way of encouraging people to do their best, whether they were in a boardroom or on a softball field. "A pitcher from the softball team that she coaches called to tell me that whenever she was not doing what Julie wanted, she would yell at her to try harder," said Ms. Geis's mother, Betty Geis.

Memorial reading for Julie Geis is taken from her profile published in THE NEW YORK TIMES on October 15, 2001.
