“Can’t We Be Sweethearts” is a 1963 pop hit by Dion & the Del-Satins (uncredited on the record label). This was song was originally written by entrepreneur Morris Levy and lyricist Herbert Cox for The Cleftones in 1956. Dion and his former group “the Belmonts” previously recorded and released this song back in 1958.
This song is about a boy infatuated with a girl and is asking her to be with him in a relationship.
Can't we be sweethearts? Why don't we fall in love?
Right from the start, you're the girl I'm dreamin' of
Oh, can't you see you're the one and only girl for me?

Please by my sweetheart, don't you know the way I feel?
Don't play the part, please make my dreams come real
Oh, don't you know, don't you know I really love you so?

We'd walk hand in hand in our wonderland
The world would be our own
I'll make love to you, love and kisses too
You'd be mine alone

Can't we be sweethearts? Why don't we fall in love?
Right from the start, you're the girl I'm dreamin' of
Oh, can't you see you're the one and only girl for me?

We'd walk hand in hand in our wonderland
The world would be our own
I'll make love to you, love and kisses too
You'd be mine alone

Can't we be sweethearts? Don't you know the way I feel?
Don't break my heart, please make my dreams all real
Oh, don't you know, don't you know I really love you so?
