VSO Releases Body Cam Footage After A Shootout Between Boaters And Jet Skiers

This past weekend, Deputy Wes Blum was one of many units from Volusia SO, Lake County SO and FWC who responded to a shootout between boaters and jet skiers on the St. Johns River in Astor.

Two people sustained life-threatening gunshot injuries in the incident. Deputy Blum and a witness with medic training quickly rendered aid. This victim was airlifted to the hospital, where he was listed as critical but stable, and survived in large part due to the immediate treatment he received on scene.

Sheriff Mike Chitwood will be presenting the deputy and witness with life-saving awards in recognition of their actions. All units from Volusia, Lake and FWC who responded to this call will also be recognized for their quick response and coordinated effort, with all suspects taken into custody. Great work all!
