Ultra Street Fighter II Online Ranked Matches (Recorded on 5/26/17)
Ultra Street Fighter II: The Final Challengers just came out for the Nintendo Switch, and it's actually the first time I've been able to play Street Fighter II online. The last new Street Fighter game that I bought was Super Street Fighter II Turbo Revival for the Game Boy Advance back in 2002.
I've been a fan of Street Fighter II since it debuted in the arcades back in 1991, so it's incredibly exciting for me to finally be able to compete with people online. Unfortunately, I've noticed a massive amount of online lag, and that's certainly affecting how well I can play. I'm sure it's affecting other people too. Hopefully that becomes less prevalent.
This is definitely a learning experience for me because I'm having to figure out how to adapt my style against other people when I'm generally not used to doing that. Since people are less predictable than computers, I have to recognize their patterns much quicker and react instantly.
Right now I'm using the Pro Controller, but I'm not entirely happy with it. The D-pad feels a little too stiff for my liking, and I've never liked using shoulder buttons with tournament fighters. I've always preferred having 6 face buttons, but most Nintendo controllers haven't offered that option.
Also, I've never revealed this before, but when I use an SNES-style controller for a tournament fighter like Street Fighter II, I reach across the controller and hit the L button with my right index finger. In fact, that's how I recorded all of my prior Street Fighter II and Killer Instinct videos for the Super Nintendo. Ever since I was a kid, I had trouble pulling off special moves if it meant using my left index finger to hit the L button, so I just used my right one instead. Weird, huh?
Luckily, there's an upcoming solution. Hori is supposed to release an arcade stick for the Switch, which will be really helpful for this game, but apparently it doesn't come out until July. I do plan on picking up the arcade stick once it's released, but until then I'm stuck with the Pro Controller.
In this video I did several back-to-back ranked matches against random people using Ken. Evil Ryu gave me the most trouble due to his juggling effect and the online lag. I'll have to be aware of that in the future.
Recorded with the Elgato Game Capture HD60 and the Switch's HDMI cable at native 1080p resolution and 60 frames per second. I'm using a Pro Controller.
