One Morning In May - Guitar - Traditional Folk Song

One Morning In May is a traditional folk song and one of the first songs I ever learned way back when I started playing folk music. One of my favorites. I sing it along with guitar accompaniment. I tell a story before the song and ramble on too long at the end. I`ll add timestamps if you want to skip around. Lyrics below if you want to sing along with Dan.

One Morning In May - Lyrics

One morning, one morning, one morning in may
I spied a fair couple they were making their way
One was a maiden so bright and so fair
And the other was a soldier and brave volunteer

Good morning, good morning, good morning said he
And Where are you going my pretty lady
I`m going out there a-walking by the banks of the sea
To see the waters gliding, hear the nightingales sing

Well they`d not been walking but a minute or two
When out of his napsack a fiddle he drew
And the tune that he played made the valleys all ring
Oh hark cried the maiden hear the nightingales sing

Oh maiden, fair maiden it`s time give over
Oh no kind soldier wont you play one tune more
For I`d rather hear your fiddle and the touch of one string
Than to see the waters gliding, hear the nightingales sing

Oh soldier, kind soldier well you marry me
Oh no fair maiden that never can be
I got a wife back in London and children twice three
Two wives and the army`s too many for me

So I`ll go back to London and stay there one year
But it`s often I`ll think of you my little dear
And if ever I return it`ll be in the spring
To see the waters gliding, hear the nightingales sing
