Church Is Essential: Update

When we first released this video, Pastor John MacArthur faced a major lawsuit from LA County along with threats to shut down his church for continuing to gather despite the government ordering him to shut down. The government was trying to dictate how the church ought to function. However, Pastor John understood the Scriptures, and they tell us in Acts 5:29 that we are to obey God rather than men. While Romans 13 tells us to submit to our governing authorities, Acts 5:29 is just one verse clarifying that when God’s orders and the government’s orders come into conflict, we are to obey God. Pastor John also understood his Constitutional rights, which are not suspended for illnesses. Our Founders enumerated our religious freedom in the Bill of Rights because they understood that the government could not dictate how the church should operate or teach. Pastor John took LA County to court over his God-given right to run his church following God’s word, and today, he won his lawsuit against LA County. Pastor John’s lawsuit is a significant victory for preserving religious liberty in the United States, which is under heightened attack from progressives. It takes bold and brave leaders like Pastor John MacArthur to stand courageous in the face of powerful opposition and resolve to defend what is right and true despite the sacrifice that might come with it. As Christians and as Americans, we must all be willing to do the same. It isn’t always easy, and it often comes at a price, but sacrifices like Pastor John’s help secure the blessings of liberty and the spreading of the Gospel in America for generations to come. Thank you, Thomas More Society, Jenna Ellis, and Pastor John MacArthur, for boldly defending the truth that the church is essential!
