STUDY GUIDE

Salvation (the Spirit IN) happens to us personally and is FOR us personally. The infilling of the Spirit (the Spirit UPON) happens to us personally and is FOR others through us (through God). Both are OF the Spirit, but they are doing two different things.

The Spirit IN involves the fruit of the spirit, for character – for us. The Spirit UPON involves the gifts of the Spirit – to bless others.

In the Old Testament, the Holy Spirit came upon people, but no one was saved because Jesus had not come yet. At the death of Christ, the supernatural tearing of the temple curtain signified the releasing of the Holy Spirit from the confines of the Holy of Holies.
Now, as new creations, we can receive the Holy Spirit to dwell in us.

The Church did not begin at the Day of Pentecost because there was still no preaching of the Gospel of Grace, which is necessary to the Body of Christ. There was a contradiction between Grace and Moses until we realized Jesus fulfilled the Law.

The Gospel of Grace came to the Gentiles through Paul (Galatians 2:7). God ordained this.
The end result of the baptism of the Holy Spirit is to equip believers to minister the anointing to others.

It is important to recognize that everything changed at the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus.

Receiving Jesus is simpler than man-made criteria. Man-made criteria heaps condemnation on people.

The term ‘rededication’ sounds good, but it is not possible to actually rededicate something that you have already given to God and no longer belongs to you. We can get under condemnation because of things in our lives that are not right and cause us to pursue rededication. The truth is, we are already forgiven.

Truth versus feeling. We can FEEL far away from God, but the truth is, we are IN CHRIST. We might have some emotional experiences with God, but that is not our gauge for truth. The Word – what God says – is what we must believe.

Lies steal from us. How do we break free? The Word is truth. Philemon 1:6 tells us to declare the Word of God and not to declare our feelings.

When others pray for us and we receive the anointing, we can’t go by our feelings to gauge whether we ‘got it’ or not. We trust the WORD. We declare that the power of God is working in our bodies!

Don’t hold back. Decide to be available to God so others can be blessed through you.

The Spirit WITHIN is for fruit-bearing. The Spirit UPON is for service.

John 14:17
If we are redeemed, the Spirit of Truth dwells in us.

Acts 1:8
The Holy Spirit comes upon you. Receiving the infilling of the Holy Spirit cannot happen until you become a new creation.

John 4:14
The water that Jesus gives, a well of everlasting life, is salvation.

John 7:37-39
Jesus spoke of the Holy Spirit, who was not yet given. Jesus was speaking prophetically about the Spirit baptism, which cannot be received until after salvation.

Romans 15:8
Jesus’ ministry was to Jews.

I John 1:9
Forgiveness is ours.

Philemon 1:6
Declare all the good things in us in Christ.

Galatians 5:22-23
Fruit of the spirit imparted to us when we receive salvation -- love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance.

II Corinthians 4:13
We believe and therefore we speak. Not based on events or feelings. WE set it in motion.

I Corinthians 12: 7-11
The nine gifts of the Spirit are given to profit. Given to minister to others! Word of wisdom, word of knowledge, special faith, gifts of healings, working of miracles, prophecy, discerning of spirits, tongues, and interpretation of tongues – all given by the Holy Spirit.
