I learned "Old Chattanooga" from a 1977 performance of Blaine Smith, Florrie Stewart, and Willie Branan which was recorded by Ron Williams and his high school students in Chattanooga, Tennessee. According to Williams, the trio (who were from Flat Top Mountain, Tennessee) learned the tune in the early 1900s from Tom Douglas (father of fiddler, Bob Douglas). See Williams' compilation "The Pine Breeze Recordings" for more east Tennessee music & information.

My instrument is an 1888 Thompson & Odell "The Luscomb" banjo tuned eBEG♯B ≈ gDGBD (A = 432 Hz).
