Back on Bars after 2nd Elbow Surgery | Whitney Bjerken Gymnastics

I was diagnosed with osteochondritis dissecans in September of 2017. It is a nasty injury in that the area of the elbow is avascular and therefore healing is extremely slow. My first surgery included harvesting stem cells from my hip and injecting it into my elbow bone. After a year of recovery from that surgery, I was able to return to "competitive" gymnastics. Unfortunately, the condition returned and I had to have surgery again. That surgery, in December of 2019, involved drilling out the damaged part of my elbow and replacing it with a donor bone graft. It has been over 9 months since the surgery and today I get to find out if I can start using my arms again and putting weight on my elbow.
