Unfortunately, I fell into the trap of believing that the decisions of a police administration were the key to my happiness at work. Wow! Was I wrong or what? I was wrong!

Can a police administration be so bad that it runs the police department into the ground, oh yes. However, if the department is operating as most do and not a complete crap show because of facts showing it is a bad admin, then honestly, morale can be a state of mind.

The police administration will not be like a restaurant or a theme park and see to it that you are happy. I've made the mistake of believing that I would be happy once the administration got us higher pay. I've made the mistake of thinking that the administration giving me a brand new police car would make me happy!

Do these things collectively help with job satisfaction and performance, yes, absolutely, but when it comes to actually being happy, the truth is out and the secret has been revealed that a police administration is not going to do everything you agree with. The admin is not going to make every decision that fits your personal needs.

They are there for the department, and if it is really factually bad for you, then plenty of other agencies to work for. Stay focused on your happiness and not how you believe the administration can make you happy. As I have said, I made that mistake.
