Being a police officer is a challenge because of the nature of the job. But, a police officer can easily let the job become their identity. This is a mistake I made back in 2015-2016 and it almost lead to the destruction of my marriage.

When people would ask, "What do you do?" I would respond, "I am a K9 officer." Those 2 words, "I am" were harmful because I let the job become me.

When my perspective had me fall short of being who I really was, a husband and a father, it lead to bad times in my personal life.

I know you do not want to make the same mistake. I encourage you to avoid the perspective thinking you are the job. It is what you do, not who you are.
