It is much more exciting to think about police as stoic warriors who feel no pain and do not know what fear is! But that is not reality.

Police make mistakes, feel pain, and even commit suicide at a rate higher than being killed in line of duty

The mental fight is the toughest battle in law enforcement, because every officer has a mind that is affected, only a few get into a shootout with a violent criminal.

I have dealt with addictions, PTSD, depression, anxiety, and negativity. You might be thinking I do not have the credibility… I would say I do because I was man enough to get the help and have gained experience in this area of mental health to relay to you.

The process of healing the mind is not like healing an ankle sprain. Ice the injury, take it easy, and then recover. The mind is a constant work in progress so be determined to take action.

You must first acknowledge that your brain is built like everybody else’s and that you have a higher risk of killing yourself than being killed. Also, the healthier the mind, the better you can for the public. We do not serve ourselves, yes be of service to your health, but never to yourself. We serve the citizens.

So have a good mind and focus on personal awareness!
