Koi (鯉, English / k ɔɪ / , Japanese: [koꜜi] ) or specifically koi comes from Japanese, which means carp. More specifically, it refers to nishikigoi (錦鯉) , which more or less means gold or silver embroidered carp. In Japan, koi become a kind of symbol of love and friendship. This is because koi is a homophone for other words that also mean affection or love. Koi fish is a type of fish that belongs to the carp amur ( Cyprinus rubrofuscus .).) which has very beautiful and tame ornaments. Often this fish is considered a variant of the goldfish (Cyprinus carpio) even though they are genetically different. Koi are usually kept as decorations with the aim of beauty and luck in the home and outdoors ( koi ponds or water gardens , because koi fish are believed to bring good luck. Because koi fish are related to goldfish , and therefore in Indonesia many people call them koi goldfish .
