How I Learned to Speak Italian in Less than 3 Minutes

I took a trip to New York in January of 2017 in order to spend a month with my grandfather and celebrate his 93rd birthday. Even in his old age he expressed his love for me by feeding me Italian food every day! While I was there, my cousin let me use her Macbook pro and her acoustic guitar so I could get some creative juices flowing. Since I could not speak or sing Italian, I did the best I could at writing and recording a spontaneous American Funk Rock / Italian Folk song. I used nothing more than a lap top with an old version of garage band, and an acoustic guitar. I did not even have a microphone to plug in. When I thought back to my childhood, I remembered the few Italian phrases my grandparents taught me: open the door, close the door, open the window, and close the window. I decided to use these simple phrases as a theme for the song since they were the only Italian phrases I remembered. While recording, my grandpa got a little irritated with me, since he wasn't able to make sense of what I was doing. To be honest, I couldn't make much sense of what I was doing either, but after sitting in the house for weeks I was determined to be productive in some way or another. The song was silly and disorganized to say the least, but a lot of family members seemed to enjoy it. A friend suggested that I shoot a music video for it, which is exactly what I did. After I returned home to Florida, I chipped away at various scenes little by little over the next four months until the video was almost done. The last thing it needed was an accordion sound, which a friend of mine was planning to add. However, this morning, I woke up to the sad news that my grandpa passed away. Knowing that I would not be able to continue editing after this, I decided there was no better time to finalize the project and publish it in loving memory of my dear grandfather Angelo Colella. I love you with all my heart grandpa, and I trust that you are in God's hands. 5/18/17 Find more of my music videos on YouTube @ol
