Columbus Day is A-OK!

Small victory for sanity in our public schools! With today’s Americans for Limited Government Minute, I’m Catherine Mortensen. The board of education in Stonington, Connecticut, has reversed its decision to rename Columbus Day to Indigenous Peoples Day after substantial criticism – much of it attacking the teaching of Critical Race Theory in the district. No one should be wiping the name Columbus off the calendar. We can’t impose our present time on previous times. Students should not be made to feel guilty for what happened in fourteen-ninety-two. Critical Race Theory is a Marxist philosophy that embraces the concept that all social and cultural issues should be viewed through the lens of race. As schools prepare to reopen this fall, it will be interesting to see if woke school boards continue pushing CRT nonsense, or if our vocal opposition has done the job. And if it hasn’t, let’s keep it up until the message sticks. We want our children to learn actual history, not some Marxist ideology. For more check us out at the Daily Torch.comShow more
