Dear USO Colleagues,

Across the United States and around the world, we have watched the events in Afghanistan unfold as Americans and Afghans who assisted the United States seek to leave the country.

There is uncertainty of how this rapidly changing situation will continue to impact our service members and military bases. I wanted to let you know that the USO has been by the side of our troops since the recent call went out for them to deploy.

Across multiple regions throughout the world, the USO has played a significant role in supporting the military and we will continue to adapt to meet the needs of our service members and their families.

As of today, the USO has provided care packages, hygiene items, internet access, support to temporary housing units, hot meals and entertainment items in support of those deploying. Given the sensitivity of the operation, we are not disclosing specific locations, activities or what forces are involved. What I can tell the USO staff is that you should all be proud of each other for helping our service members and others in a time of need — and under extraordinary circumstances.

Additionally, I know that these are stressful times for many. We are here for you.

I personally want to thank all of you for helping our service members and their families, and for being part our military’s mission — wherever they serve.
