The Sun is a yellow dwarf star, a hot gaseous ball in the center of our solar system.
About 4.5 billion years ago, the Sun and the rest of the solar system arose from a massive revolving cloud of gas and dust known as a solar nebula. The nebula whirled faster and flattened into a disc as it collapsed due to its overwhelming gravity.
The Sun has six regions: the core, the radiative zone, and the convective zone in the interior; the visible surface, called the photosphere; the chromosphere; and the outermost region, the corona.
