In this interview, James Wang explains the features that distinguish Ethereum from other asset classes. He also discusses the concept of execution as one of the major factors that contribute to the success of a project.

What makes Ethereum unique is that it's a software platform that you can build upon. Besides, there's a group of super-talented people that execute on that vision. The execution ability of Ethereum has been put to rest. This means that being able to execute and launch ambitious products is the biggest predictor of a project's long-term success.

The most successful cloud computing platform is AWS, and it's not a perfect analogy, but it gives you a sense of the scale and potential. AWS didn't start as a computing platform. Rather, it started as a storage platform. Now, Ethereum hasn't scaled to scale. It needs to go to the East, so this is an optimization for Ethereum. The amount of developers building on this program is tiny compared to the number of programmers in the world. So it's like Ethereum has made a very important software change that makes the system much more robust and self-regulating.

Nobody thinks about AWS today. As consumers, we just use Netflix to stream effortlessly. That's the moment of success.

Cardano has a peer review process, and this kind is more practical than when university professors debate in a forum writing peer reviews. Blockchain protocols affect economic livelihood for yourself and others. You are also effecting changes, unlike professors who are mostly in a zero-sum status game.

Execution is not interesting. Looking back is mostly looking forward. The reason why Nvidia beat everyone is that it shipped new chips every six months for five years. Hence, as a developer, you must continue to build up execution credibility by repeatedly hitting it not by retrospectively hitting a few milestones. At some point, people talk about the protocol ossifying just because a low-hanging fruit is picked. The rate of innovation will slow down a bit. At that point, the determinant of success is going to shift from purely just shipping new code to something like onboarding the rest of the world's GDP.
