Biden Grilled About Afghanistan on ABC
In the fallout of the evacuation of U.S. troops from Afghanistan, there are approximately 10,000-15,000 Americans still remaining in the country.
But we don’t need to worry about there safety or well-being because according to United States National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan, he is counting on the Taliban to get Americans out of Afghanistan:
"The Taliban have informed us that they are prepared to provide the safe passage of civilians to the airport, and we intend to hold them to that commitment."
Are we actually depending on the Taliban to get Americans out? We just ended a 20-year war with them, and now we are relying on their help to get American citizens home safely? Is he serious?
From reports, the Taliban has taken complete control of checkpoints at the entrances of airports. Pentagon officials are admitting they are not able to escort Americans in Kabul safely to the airport because of the Taliban control. So, it’s safe to say the Taliban is not providing a safeguard for Americans to evacuate right now.
In an interview on ABC, George Stephanopoulos grilled President Biden on his exit strategy out of Afghanistan. When Stephanopoulos asked if the exit could have been handled better in any way, President Biden responded:
"No, I don’t think this could’ve been handled in a way that, we’re going to go back in hindsight and look – but the idea that somehow, there’s a way to have gotten out without chaos ensuing. I don’t know how that happens. I don’t know how that happened."
After we’ve seen what has happened this past week, when asked whether President Biden could pinpoint if it was a failure of intelligence, planning, execution, or judgement on his Administration’s part, President Biden replied:
"Look, it was a simple choice, George. When you had the government of Afghanistan, the leader of that government, get in a plane and taking off and going to another country; when you saw the significant collapse of the Afghan troops we had trained, up to 300,000 of them, just leaving their equipment and taking off – that was, you know, I’m not, that’s what happened. That’s simply what happened. And so the question was, in the beginning, the threshold question was, do we commit to leave within the timeframe we set, do we extend it to Sept. 1 or do we put significantly more troops in?"
Congress has an obligation to hold the President accountable for the outcome of his decision. Lawmakers have decided to hold hearings to find out why the withdrawal from Afghanistan was executed the way that it was. We hope that more information comes from these hearings, in a bipartisan way, and that the American people can find out the truth.
This is a defining moment for America moving forward. Are we able to recover from this and continue to be the world’s leader? We will monitor the situation in Afghanistan and provide updates.
Today’s full Sekulow broadcast is complete with even more analysis of the consequences of President Biden’s exit strategy of Afghanistan.
