Biden Flacks Try, Fail To Spin Afghanistan Debacle

The Biden administration is struggling to spin the self-inflicted crisis in Afghanistan. White House deputy national security adviser Jonathan Finer said the president has been "deeply engaged in all of the policy conversations," while national security adviser Jake Sullivan said the president "has not yet spoken with any other world leaders."

Sullivan also regarded the question of whether U.S. troops would remain in Afghanistan until all Americans had left as "hypothetical," and Pentagon press secretary John Kirby could not say exactly how many American citizens are still in the country.
