BRONX, NEW YORK — NYPD (New York Police Department) released body cam footage of an incident where a NYPD officer exchanged gunfire with a suspect at point blank range outside a Boost Mobile cell phone store.

On May 19, 2021, a 39-year-old man got into a dispute with employees at a Boost Mobile store in the Bronx. During the dispute, the man pulled out a handgun and began menacing the employee(s). Responding officers encountered the suspect outside the store, where he managed to break free and ran away from the officers. At one point, the suspect ran in the direction of one of the officers, at which time they exchanged gunfire at point blank range. The suspect then continued to flee the area on foot and ditched his gun underneath a parked car as officers gave chase. NYPD officers recovered the suspect's semi-automatic handgun, but was unable to locate the suspect at that time.

After a manhunt, the suspect was located and arrested five days later. At that time it was discovered that he had been shot in the left arm, right hand, and was grazed in the chest. Neither of the officers involved in the shooting were struck by gunfire, however they were treated for Tinnitus.
