Bumba-meu-boi
Vibrant colors, theatrical scenes and the presence of the ox figure are the most striking elements of bumba-meu-boi, or boi-bumbá, as the dance is also known.
It is considered one of the main folk dances in Brazil and widespread in the North and Northeast regions.
The bumba-meu-boi carries Portuguese and Spanish, African and indigenous influences.
The legend of this dance revolves around the death and resurrection of the most beautiful ox a farmer had on his land.
