3 Baby Cats Hide in A Small Box

I suddenly go on my roof and hear voice then i follow that voice. I was shocked when i saw 3 baby cats in a small box. I felt that these kitties were scared because thats mother was not there. I think, that was something different but not sure whats that and why. Can you tell me why they were hide. Why they were looking scary. Please tell me if you know. Thanks
