*Not Me* on Metallica

A new series about times when I enacted *not* me— as in, I compromised my authentic desires and convictions to please my interpretation of an authority’s desire of me.

Something important I learned from my #specialinterest in psychoanalysis: our identities are structured in response to our interpretation of authority’s desire of us. Most of us either behave in #conformity or rebellion and while we may default to one position in most cases, we can alternate between the two depending on all of the variables. For myself, submission is most often the drive that leads me to compromise myself for the sake of others.

This is why I am CERTAIN that not all expressions of marginalized identities are authentic.
