Reservation Dogs' Hospital Sequence Delivers Comedy and Anger.
WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Season 1, Episode 2, "NDN Clinic," of Reservation Dogs, the new series from Sterlin Harjo and Taika Waititi, now streaming on FX on Hulu.
It should come as no surprise that a show from Indigenous creators, including Taika Waititi, is willing to step into the sticky social issues that make up life on North America's underserved and underfunded reservations.
Reservation Dogs ' "NDN Clinic" spends most of the episode showing off the inherent problems in the reservation's social and medical system.
While it's hilarious, it's also deliberately heartbreaking.

The set-up to get the Reservation Dogs to the local emergency clinic is a quick and literal double-punch of plot.
While Willie Jack and Elora Danan are ready to set up a side gig of selling homemade meat pies outside the reservation's overloaded clinic, Bear's in immediate need of the clinic's services when he gets jumped by the competing "mafia." He may keep claiming he got some good shots in, but one look at his face and his messed-up nose give away the fight's final score.
