Worshiping the Son of El Elyon; Luke 1:26-33

Delivered during the Sunday morning worship service, 1/31/2021. After 400 years of silence, God's revelation comes again after only five months. The scene dramatically shifts from a priest in the central city of Jerusalem, to a teenage peasant girl in the middle of nowhere. Once again the archangel Gabriel brings astounding news-- the virgin will bring forth a child. But not just any child, He will be the King of kings, the long awaited Messiah-- the Son of the Most High. As we make our way through this delightful and well-known text, we will carefully consider the nature of this world-changing announcement and then analyze some of the themes and tensions Luke is developing in His Gospel. But ultimately, when we consider God's incomprehensible plan of Redemption, and what He is actually doing in order to save us, we will realize that all we can do is worship-- worship the Son of El Elyon!
