Jim New Mexico Museum of
Natural History & Science “DIY NASA’s Eyes
Kiosk” In 2018, the NM Museum of Natural History & Science partnered with several other organizations,
including NASA, to produce plans that will help anyone fabricate a kiosk that gives facility visitors or
outreach participants access to a version of NASA’s Eyes, both online and offline. The guide suggests
what kind of hardware to purchase and provides step-by-step instructions to set up the kiosk version of
Eyes, then also shows how to safeguard the computer from breaking out of the software. Most of the
work on this project was done through an internship the museum arranged with a local university.
Katherine Ingram Planetarium, OIMF,
Inc. “The Benefits of a
Virtual Walk-a-
Thon” In this summary, Kat will discuss her experience organizing and facilitating Ingram Planetarium's
virtual walk-a-thon: Ingram Planetarium Walks to the ISS. She will detail the motivations for embarking
on this experiment that combines Earth and Space education outreach with fitness and how the event
successfully monetized virtual programs for Ingram Planetarium during the pandemic where all other
strategies failed.
Milwaukee Public Museum “New Shows from
the Soref
Planetarium in
Milwaukee, WI” Our dome may have gone dark due to Covid, but we've been busy creating shows! Explore our latest
musings and productions:
CONSTELLATIONS! Adventures Connecting Earth & Sky
Stargazers of Africa
A to Z Astronomy For ages 3 to 103
Dino SOARS! A Story of Dinosaurs, Feathers & Birds, Oh My.
"Putting On a Play
in Your Dome" Many planetariums have been thinking of ways to use their dome as an alternative venue for such
things as concerts, yoga classes, lectures, etc.
Putting on a live play or a live theater performance is something not necessarily beyond the pale. I
know other planetariums have done it before. That being said, this is how I tackled putting on a full
performance of Silent Sky in our planetarium with custom made fulldome visuals, surround sound
effects, staging, lighting, amplification and how I was able to transform what I created to be used in the
actual theater environment as well.

10:40 AM 10m Presentation 8 Dunn Jack Retired - Mueller Planetarium “Live from a
Planetarium” At the same time SEPA has its e-conference, I'll be in the planetarium where I got my start as a student
of Dr. Gilbert Lueninghoener at Midland University in Fremont, NE. There is no director there now, but
the administration has given me the ability to help fix up the planetarium to make it more useful for
students and faculty. We've put in fulldome and more. The theater has a great history and I will mention
ideas that Dr. L. instituted way back there that were thought radical, yet today are taken for granted.
One was his wide field projection system he called "Planevista." Dr. Ken Murphy of SW Minnesota State
University is helping me and is installing OpenSpace.
10:50 AM 5m Vendor 6 Rau Charlie ChromaCove "ChromaCove LED
Lighting Solutions" ChromaCove is THE name in cove lighting for planetariums. Take 5 minutes with us to find out why our
fixtures and systems are preferred by planetarium professionals and systems vendors across the globe.

12:00 PM 5m Vendor 7 Young Joanne Audio-Visual Imagineering “Laser Camp” LaserCamp is designed for grades 7-9 but is adaptable a few grades up or down. One of the goals is
to have teams of 1-3 campers produce a laser show to a song of each team's choice which could be
presented to family and friends in the planetarium. The program materials include a laser, an optics kit
and daily lesson plans with lots of activities to engage in scientific fundamentals and properties of light.
12:05 PM 10m Presentation 9 Lazich Gary Pisgah Astronomical
Research Institute “A Dome Within a
Dome” Find out how a community college in western North Carolina transformed a closed landfill into an
alternative energy park, then added an observatory that IDA designated as North Carolina's first Dark
Sky Park, and is now adding WNC's first permanent planetarium.

Indian River State College “We’re Getting a

small gift shop adjacent to its theater. Beginning in September, it will be open before and after public
and school shows, and will have many affordable and educational items for sale, as well as the usual t-
shirts, caps and coffee mugs. Planetarium Director Jon U. Bell will share his experiences in setting up
and operating this new gift shop, including the kinds of merchandise being offered. He is also seeking
out tips and recommendations from those in SEPA who have been operating gift shops, and is looking
forward to hearing those stories!
