In most countries, the answer is 10 years. Virtually every country on the face of the planet, every registration will last for 10 years, and then you can renew it, and renew it, and renew it, and renew it every 10 years.

Canada is an exception currently, where your registration is good for 15 years. Then you can renew it for another 15 years, and then another 15 years. But the new legislation that is about to come into force in Canada—we don’t know when it is going to be, it’s probably not going to be in 2016, but everybody is waiting—will reduce that term to 10 years to conform with the rest of the world.
