Large (up to 95 cm long) parrots with very bright colors of green, red, blue and yellow tones. Males, females and juveniles are colored almost the same. The areas around the eyes and sides of the head are glabrous, sometimes with sparse and short feathers. The wings are strongly elongated and pointed towards the end. The tail is wedge-shaped, longer than the body. A characteristic feature is a large, laterally compressed and strongly rounded beak with a sharply curved tip.
