Great advice and awareness for all new parents
I wanted to start this post by saying I am not a parent, I am not telling you how you should parent or what is right or wrong. I am purely coming at this from an observer and from a coach who works in child development
Parents please listen up. The first 7 years of your children’s life is the most important. All of their behaviours, mindset and beliefs will be created in this period and will influence the direction of their life
Kids are in a Theta wave state, which is subconscious, like a state of hypnosis. Think of them like a sponge, they soak up EVERYTHING
They will mimic your behaviours, listen to the way you communicate and take on many of your views as truth
Their learning capacity is HUGE at this point so it is super important to pay attention to what they are watching.
I was shocked when I was introduced to some of the most popular children’s programs out there. Please remember, because it is popular doesn’t mean it is good.
The children mimic the behaviours of the TV and if you pay attention to some of the main characters you will start to realise where they get their behaviours from
If you want your child to be polite, if you want them to be healthy, if you want them to be happy, then you must set the example. Your child will pick up everything from you.
If you are angry or rude, they will see this as truth
Imagine the power of teaching your child from a young age how to combat stressful moments by always coming back to the breath. Or continue to tell them to call you whenever they are in trouble or need you? Yes the first 7 years they won’t have a phone, but least they will instinctively know to call they are older
Or how about making them aware that they will argue in the future but no matter how much they argue, to always tell them to remember that it always comes from a place of love, even if they hate you in that moment. Awareness creates change, let us create awareness from early on, get them prepared so they know how to deal with situations
Another thing to think about is the importance of the babies sleep. This is essential for their growth, both physically and mentally. Although they can sleep through most things, light and noise will still influence their sleep. Try to imagine you are the baby through their eyes. Breastfeeders who are drinking alcohol will pass this onto the child. The smallest amount of alcohol in your blood will have a significant impact on their sleep. In the book Why We Sleep, they show a number of studies on this
These are a few things to be conscious of. Parenting must be the most enjoyable and amazing experience and I love to help parents get good foundations set in place and they do all the rest
