THE SAFE BOATS (inner you is a real motivator)

When you set goals like we talked about yesterday, you’ll have a good idea of the steps you’ll need to take to accomplish any task. No you need to break each step down into smaller steps.

You see, when you break large tasks down into little ones, you make them less daunting. Instead of having to climb a cliff face, you can erect a ladder to your goal and climb it one rung at a time.

This helps to prevent procrastination, as you’ll be able to see the end of the task before you even begin. Once you get started, the motivation to achieve your goal will spur you on. When you’ve finished, give yourself a reward. This can be something physical like allowing yourself some of your favorite candy, or just something psychological like giving yourself a pat on the back. Then it's on to the next step – and the one after that, and the one after that, and so-on until you reach your goal.

Motivation is (literally) all in the mind. When you program your mind to get the job done, you can accomplish great things. Getting started is often what holds people back. People often fail to get started because they find the tasks they face to be daunting, so they put it off (AKA procrastinate). Yet once you can see the task ahead is only small and easily accomplished, it doesn’t seem so daunting, so you’ll have fewer reasons to put it off.
