After announcing a name change was forthcoming at a later date, we now know what the current/former Cleveland Indians will be called, and when they will be called it. The Indians nickname will be retired at the conclusion of the 2021 season and be replaced by the very generic, very basic "Guardians". Glad the Twitter crowd is happy...

If this wasn't just an easy way to print some new merchandise and flip a quick buck, the organization in Cleveland would have done it sooner. Instead, they were assessing the success of Washington and their Football Team flip a name and make a boatload of cash off the back of it.
