Children of Horror,
Norman Bates still has murderous Mother trouble. Astronauts exposed to a lunar flower become werewolves. And…a college student conjures up a vampire from the stars, as we take another terrifying turn on the Bloch—Robert Bloch. His latest star gazer will suck the life out of you.
“The Shambler from the Stars" was published in September 1935 for Weird Tales. It’s a Cthulhu Mythos tale that first introduced the forbidden tome “De Vermis Mysteriis” -- (Mysteries of the Worm). H.P. Lovecraft in 1935, wrote its sequel "The Haunter of the Dark" and dedicated it to Bloch. In 1950, Robert wrote the sequel to that tale--"The Shadow from the Steeple".
“The Shambler from the Stars” is narrated by a nameless college student who hopes to make a living as a famous writer of weird fiction. Rejection after rejection by magazine editors, causes the desperate narrator to search for forbidden knowledge--true practitioners of the occult. Sending letters of correspondence to free thinkers, and academics from all over the country brings him into the circle of a “mystic dreamer” from Providence, New England. Together they search and find the mysterious occult book, “De Vermis Mysteriis”
Will the narrator and the “mystic dreamer” unlock the forbidden doors of “De Vermis Mysteriis”? What horrific bloodsucker will our occultists unleash as they reach for the stars?--JL
