Chris Fillios' View on the May 2020 and the Opt Out.
This is a clip from a KC Dems zoom meeting in the summer of 2020.
Kootenai County Commissioner Chris Fillios is speaking.
He is talking about the democratic vote in the May primary. "There was a 1900 vote difference between the March Presidential primary and the May local primary." A few moments later Fillios says, "Bless your hearts for changing to vote Republican, if you hadn't done that I would have lost." An elected official is grateful that people changed party affliction to help him win? Wow!
Fillios acknowledges that he is not popular in the northern part of Kootenai County. He says it is for two reasons: A 3% tax increase, and for getting rid of the "Opt Out". He also states that people want to not have any building codes. That is factually wrong - people wanted to be code compliant without breaking the bank. Also, that is one of the areas where his decisions directly affect citizens. Of course he would be more popular in liberal downtown CDA.
He talks about how the moderate/centrist Republicans had victories in the May 2020 primary - Bill Brooks, himself, Doug O., Peter Riggs, and Bob Norris.
Fillios names Jeff Tyler, of NorthWest Property Owners Alliance, as a problem. He says that NWPOA gets involved in property rights issues that they don't know much about. He says they take a very individualistic view on property rights.
Um, NWPOA fights for individual property rights, especially when the county wants to take them away. (I am on the board of NWPOA.)
Notice that Fillios is at work during this zoom call.
