On this episode of the Money Trekker Podcast Jeff interviews Jim Howicz of Richards, Rodrigues, and Skeith, LLP. Jim has extensive experience as a Corporate Councel working for firms such as Discover Card, Dell, and a couple of startups. With his current firm, Jim acts as an outsourced corporate counsel. He works with small businesses that need to have more regular access to an attorney. In this episode we cover:

1. Jim’s background going from law school to working in Immigration Law, to being a Corporate Counsel for several large companies to now being an Outsourced Corporate Council for Small/Mid-Sized Businesses.
2. Jim shares the areas of law (business formation, contracts law, negotiations) with us and how he acts as the quarterback of your legal team, bringing in other lawyers as needed to provide expertise.
3. Some new things that he is providing to clients.
4. The “Fast 5” Questions.

Andrew’s “Fast Five” Answers:

1. If you lost your business, had $500 in your pocket, place to live, laptop computer. What would you do first? Fortunately I am a Lawyer, so I would go back to being a lawyer. I would contact my network, find some jobs reviewing contracts right away, and then rebuild my business.
2. What is the biggest business mistake that you have made? Not always realizing to be nice to people. Working as a corporate council before in the Fortune 100 space, we had the power and money, so people had to be nice to us. That is not so in the Small Business world, so I had to learn to be nicer to people we were negotiating with.
3. What is a good book that you would recommend? Overcoming the Five Dysfunctions of a Team (https://amzn.to/3iEvzOi) by Patrick Lencioni
4. What is a tool that you use in your business every day that you would recommend? My yellow legal pad. When I have to work out a problem or be creative, I like to unplug technology.
5. How do we get ahold of you? The easiest way is to contact me through our firm website www.RRSfirm.com. That has biographical information and contact information for all members of our firm.
