Improve your health series - Stress related conditions #shorts
This short video explains in a nutshell how acute stress activates the sympathetic nervous system and the hypothalamic–pituitary–adrenal (HPA) axis, leading to heightened levels of catecholamines (epinephrine and norepinephrine) and steroid hormones like cortisol.
Many, if not most, of the diseases today can be linked to poor and stressful lifestyle and unresolved emotional issues. One psycho toxin involved in chronic stress that certainly needs mention is the hormone, cortisol.
Central obesity is one of the metabolic actions of cortisol, followed by insulin resistance. Since cortisol also shares a receptor with the anabolic hormone testosterone in the muscle, if cortisol is constantly excreted at high levels over time the result will be muscle atrophy and under performance.
The effect of stress on the extracellular matrix is especially important, as cortisol plays a role in the natural degradation and repair process of the matrix.
