This girl decided to surprise her mum's husband by asking him to officially adopt her in an emotional video.

Executive Assistant Michelle Alenius, 39, filmed as her daughter Shayla, 19, presented Michelle's husband Chris, 38, with the adoption papers at their home in Alberta, Canada.

When Shayla discussed this with Michelle in advance, she couldn't wait to help her put her plan in motion.

Michelle said: "I had tears in my eyes watching them."
