Spiritual Poverty

Nations starving with spiritual poverty
faith had been dying on the vine
Turning their backs against divinities
they’re drunk from a poisonous wine

Gods of commerce created new religions
for devotees of mass consumption
Needing more as addictions ravaged
foregoing any semblance of gumption

False prophets advertise spurious salvation
enriching only themselves with huge profit
Depleted of faith and decayed from within
with no plans to ever stop it

Brain washing worked convincingly well
and many bought into the hype
From demons of enormous greed
debt ruined many, for the timing it was ripe

A financial burden that could never be repaid
only to be all taken away in the end
Work your shackled fingers to the bone
paying back on the interest nothing left to spend

They are only things, can’t take them when you die
was it all worth such a heavy price
More left you feeling empty inside
and poorer then little church mice
