the predominant treatment for a narcotic addiction is MAINTENANCE, in the US, 2021. Nobody ever suggests that for alcoholism, why do narcotic addicts get shunted into treatment potentially for decades, requiring replacement with the very same drug to which they were previously addicted? Partly this is from the "disease model", presuming that narcotic addiction is in fact a disease rather than simply an addiction. No doubt it's difficult to stop and there might be certain psychological traumas in one's life that brought about addiction, but can we grow and/or move on from these?
