Government bureaucracy deciding policy, not elected officials. Protest groups controlling government policy. In the past, the government would push for economic growth by deregulating banks, allowing debt to climb, then collapse it all by putting up interest rates. Another way was to push the middle class to invest in new industries, like the dot com collapse of the 90s. They are using more direct means, such as covid, environmental concerns, diversity programs, or dumping large sums of money into large corporations on the pretext government contracts save money.
