It seemed to have everything... a trashy Harold Robbins novel based on the Lana Turner/ Johnny Stompamato murder case; director Edward Dmytryk, fresh off his triumphant version of Robbins' "The Carpetbaggers;" the irresistible casting of Susan Hayward, Bette Davis (who legendarily hated each other), Mike Conners (a couple of years before "Mannix"), and newcomer Joey Heatherton. Written by John Michael Hayes ("Rear Window," "Butterfield 8"). Yet, it didn't work, not even in an unintentionally funny way. Why?
