[Quick guide] Why and how do bats hang upside down?

Why and how do bats hang upside down? Won't they suffer from dizziness and muscle cramps by doing so? What is so different between human and bats that it makes it nearly impossible for us to hang upside down for a prolonged period, much less sleeping upside down?
