Past epidemics have affected American towns by compelling them to adapt and upgrade their infrastructure. Cities had to build public health offices, sewage systems, and public parks, to name a few things, to lessen the impact an outbreak may have.

Catherine Brinkley, Assistant Professor of Community and Regional Development at the University of California, Davis, wrote the article that inspired this film.
