British Somaliland, officially the British Somaliland Protectorate (Somali: Dhulka Maxmiyada Soomaalida ee Biritishka), was a British protectorate in present-day Somaliland.
On 26 June 1960, British Somaliland declared independence as the State of Somaliland and adopted a national anthem consisting of traditional music.
Recorded by village musicians, it was transcribed by R.A.Y. Mitchell, Bandmaster of the Military Band and was performed by the Royal Highland Fusiliers at the independence celebrations.

On 1 July 1960, the State of Somaliland voluntarily united with the Trust Territory of Somalia (the former Italian Somalia) to form the Somali Republic. Thus this anthem, which had no words, only lasted five days.
