DO YOU REMEMBER that good old southern cooking? When I was growing up, my granny was my favorite cook. My mama was an amazing cook as well, but there was just something about being in granny’s kitchen.
I have made it so easy for you to learn how to cook like my granny and mama did with cooking tutorials for each and every recipe in our cookbooks. You can see how to order these by visiting us on our website. Oh and no difficult to find or crazy ingredients! Just simple ingredients and really good food.
I am a southern girl born in raised in Collard Valley in Polk County Georgia. We went to church on Sunday, school during the week, the grocery store on Friday’s and that was our life. No vacations, no camping, just plain old southern country people
NOW FOR THIS FAMILY RECIPE:
HAND ROLLED BISCUITS
5 LB. WHITE LILY SELF RISING FLOUR (PACKED TIGHT IN A BOWL)
1 PINCH SODA
2/3 CUP SHORTENING
WHOLE BUTTERMILK ABOUT 1 1/2 CUPS
PREHEAT OVEN TO 450 DEG. F.
Pack your flour in a large bowl. Add soda, shortening and half of milk. Go ahead and grease the sheet pan with shortening. Using your hand squeeze the shortening into the milk until it is about pea sized. Add the rest of the milk and continually work the dough around in the bowl by turning the bowl as you work it. It will pull flour from the sides and bottom into the dough. Once you have incorporated a good bit of flour into the dough start squeezing it through your fingers to finish. You will have to stop incorporating flour into the dough when you feel the dough getting thick enough to pinch off a biscuit. Wash your hands, then flour your hands and fold dough a couple of times in the bowl. Start pinching off enough dough to make a biscuit and roll it as shown in my video tutorial. Bake biscuits on a greased sheet pan at 450 degrees until light golden brown (about 20 minutes). Enjoy. #whitelilybaking
