In 2017, Russian President Vladimir Putin opened a mass international communist youth festival in Sochi, Russia. The week long event, timed to coincide with the hundredth anniversary of the Bolshevik revolution, was personally endorsed by the Russian President.

Putin personally intervened so that the organizers could secure the Sochi venue.

The Festival is organized by the decades old and still very much alive Soviet international front organization World Federation of Democratic Youth, and has drawn communist youth from more than 180 countries.
