The blue peacock or Indian peacock, whose scientific name is Pavo cristatus is one of three peacock species. The blue peacock has shiny dark blue feathers. Adult males are large, up to 230 cm long, with a very long tail cover of metallic green color. On top of his head is a blue crest forming a fan. The female bird is smaller than the male bird. The feathers are not shiny, greenish brown with black stripes and without tail covering feathers. Young birds like females.

Blue peacock populations are scattered in open forests with grasslands in India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Nepal and Bhutan. Previously this species was also found in Bangladesh, but is now most likely extinct there.
